Addressing the mind

The number one problem that needs addressing is our mental wellbeing. Forget the pain. We can only do so much to combat daily burning and flare ups. The real issue those of us suffering chronic pain need to face is the conflicts we feel in our minds. The anxiety, the frustration and anger we experience on a daily basis. Emotions that create guilt.

No one wants to admit they are angry. We may be doing our best but our frustrations punch through affecting our personal relationships. It’s as if we are walking around with a stone in our shoe. Pain aggravates us to breaking point. But we fight through it, doing our best to lead a normal life. Many of us cannot speak with our partners and friends through fear of complaining all the time. So we bottle our problems up. We become pressure cookers of stress, so we need a solution.

You may or may not have come across mindfulness at it’s most basic form. I’m not talking about the guided distraction techniques that are plentiful on you tube. I have nothing against them. Distraction in a flare up can be vital. The meditation I practice and pass on to others is unlike anything you may have come across. There is no fantasising on sandy beaches. No hypnotic breathing or mantras to learn. It is simple beyond words.

It deals with the cause of Anxiety and deppresion. The cause being suppressed resentment from our inability to deal with stress in a healthy way. Many get lost in obsessive behaviours, these also only serve as a distraction. We seek relief from our internal conflicts in all sorts of unhealthy ways. From alcohol abuse to unhealthy relationships. Anything that gives us relief from ourselves can become addictive. It’s like having an itch we cannot scratch.

This is why finding a real way to meet stress is so vital to any human being, not just us pain sufferers. Non contemplative meditation is completely free. My friend who pssses on makes no money from it. He isn’t a guru or a teacher. He is a man who gives freely of what he discovered, and it is mind boggling in it’s simplicity.

All it takes is a commitment to live each day - each moment, in a mindful state. It's a state of conscious awareness. An awakened state of being where overthinking takes a back seat to intuition. When we are unaffected by our thoughts we no longer live in the doubt and negativity our thoughts conjour up. It is a way to become still and allow light to wash over us. When we become objective to our thoughts we also become free from the emotional ties to them.

Resentment is the number one offender when it comes the mental pressure chronic pain creates. Annoyance, anger, bitterness, fear and frustration are all forms of resentment. By meditating in this special way we break free from the suppressed negativity we have bottled up. It litteraraly lifts out of us as light replaces the darkness. It is a spiritual liberation from forces that have plagued us. Once free we feel completely different, life suddenly becomes more managble as we are not burning up energy fighting our own thinking.

Real meditation can be difficult at the start as we awaken from our former selves. We may become aware of traits we have that are not overly gracious, the reality of our resentment can also be a heady experience. Not everyone is ready for it. But fear not, it’s a good thing. Truth will always set us free as this meditation does just that.

So if you are ready for a change in your life and are interested in mindfulness as a way to resolve the stress problem I will leave the link here. Just 15 minutes first thing in the morning and 15 minutes before bedtime. And if you begin - continue and your life will never be the same.
